Happy Birthday Packing In Pink

August 29th, 2012

Packing In Pink is officially 5! Its so funny looking back. 5 years ago today I was sitting at my desk at the law firm. After spending a few weeks planning out my new venture and picking out a name, I got the search results back….and the name was taken :( Sad and discouraged, I called my dad..Hearing the disappointment in my voice and knowing how hard I was working on things, in a desperate attempt to cheer me up and keep me going he responded…”Packing In Pink…what about that name?” LOL I almost instantly got off the phone and called down to the Corporate Search office and had her run the name…and sure enough, it was available. All excited I called my dad back and ran in and told my boss, who turned around and said ” well call her back and get it incorporated!” with a big smile on his face. And so it was. With my dads quick thinking and my boss’ push, Packing In Pink was incorporated and the rest is history! :) xoxox To my dad, my boss (technically former boss) and all of the family and friends and customers of course who have stood behind me & us, thank you!! You are the reason it is was it is today!!! 5 years old and going strong!!

Kim:

When I was 11, my dad took me to the hunters safety course. That following winter I went out on my first hunt and a got an 8 point buck at 8:00 am. Since then I found myself shooting more and more. My boyfriend came across your advertisements in one of his  magazines and I check out your website. I think it is a great thing you did by coming up with these products for all the female shooters out there.

Here is a brief story about how I began shooting.

Two years ago, my husband took me out to a field to show me how to shoot the 9mm that he keeps next to the bed.  I thought it was a good idea, in case there ever came a time where I might need it.  I didn’t want to be the helpless girl who was robbed (or worse) with a perfectly good gun at her disposal.  It turned out that I am a pretty good shot, but the 9mm seemed a little too big for me so I wasn’t very comfortable with it.  We talked about maybe getting me a smaller gun and I tried holding a few at a gun shop.  I really liked the way the Walther P22 felt in my hand.

This past year, my parents moved closer to us and purchased several acres.  My step-dad is a gun collector and made sure that he could shoot on his land.  I had fun one day shooting my husband’s 380 .  I was really starting to enjoy target shooting.  Then this past Christmas,to my surprise,  I received not one- but two of my own guns!  (both pink!)  I have the P22 and a 22 rifle.  I had no idea how much I would enjoy shooting them both.

My husband came across your web site while we were online trying to find shooting accessories for me.  It was really refreshing to find an entire product line with women in mind!  I know that some people don’t understand the fascination with pink guns and accessories, but I think it has to do with wanting to maintain your femininity, even if you can shoot as well as (or better than) a man.

I really love your product line, and I’m excited about what is to come.  I feel that it will unite and empower women to learn how to both protect themselves and learn a new skill.

I’m not sure if you have already spread your business to the United States, but I know it would do amazingly well here.  I live in the Midwest and have several friends and acquaintances that like to shoot and would enjoy your products.  I have already passed along your website to a few.

My idea for your slogan:  “Shoot like a woman.”

Sincerely,

Jessica White

Thanks so much for coming up with this great idea.  I gave my dad, Jim Wilkins, the mission this year to find me pink ear muffs and safety glasses.  He succeeded in this when he came across your website.  I am very pleased with your product, especially how comfortable both the earmuffs and glasses are (and of course that they are pink).  I began shooting when I was quite young.  I shot .22s competitively at the local rifle and pistol club until I graduated from high school in 1997.  I joined the U.S. Army after high school and had the opportunity to travel and shoot many different and exciting types of guns.  I am no longer in the military, but shooting remains one of my hobbies.  I am attaching two pictures of me with my new pink gear and my dad’s Springfield 1903 A3.

Thanks again.  I know every female I run into will be jealous and I will be sure to give them your information!

Sincerely,
Heather Androlevich

When I heard about Packing in Pink I thought, ‘Sure, I’ll go and shoot guns for the day as it’s
supporting a good cause so why not’.  Little did I know the impact this organization would have
on me.

After going through my divorce and having to close my business as well as try and maintain a
stable environment for my daughter and keeping up on my finances as a single parent, my
confidence level had dropped to an all time low.  After my first meeting with Packing in Pink, I
found my self-esteem and confidence has improve dramatically.  I’m more productive at work, I
smile more and generally I like myself again.  I wanted to do something for a good cause and
don’t have a lot of money to donate which is another reason why I joined this group.  Breast
Cancer is a growing concern and if this is one way I can help others as well as myself I am all for
it.  I bought a sweatshirt my first day and wear it proud.  I tell everyone about Packing in Pink
and have recruited three more women who will be coming to the next meeting in June.  I also
plan on purchasing the hat and tee shirt as well as my own pink ear muffs!  I was never one to
wear pink, don’t own anything pink, but for this I will and wear it proud.

Personally, I won’t own a gun.  But to go each month and get together with a great bunch of
people and shoot targets is fun and empowering.   Everyone has seen a difference in my attitude
and the way I carry myself.  My shoulders are back, my head is high and I am not scared of the
unknown.  This after only one meeting!

Kim is very serious about gun safety and passionate about raising money to fight Breast Cancer.
Little does she know the impact she is also having on helping others find their inner strength to
be and do more in life then what is in their little box.  I will continue to support and be part of
Packing in Pink as well as promote as much as I can.

I love PIP, the products are great for fashionable women who don’t want to look plain or manly when they are shooting.  I always sport by PIP products at the range when I am shooting my Walther pps .40 and Glock 22 .40

Hello,

My name is Jolene, and my son is going to be competing in a USPSA pistol match for Breast Cancer
Awareness.  I am a cancer survivor, his grandmother passed away after her battle with breast cancer
days before his 9th birthday.  I was wondering if you could discount a pair of the ear muffs so he can
use them in the competition.  Thank you for your time.

Sincerely

Hey Kim,

First off I want to say I love your products!! Im enjoying my T-Shirt and Saftey Glasses. Im sure that I will be purchasing more items in the future. Every time im at the range I always get stopped by someone wanting to know about my items. Anyways…I got into guns a couple of months ago when my Husband purchased him a new Taurus PT 911 9mm. At first I wasn’t very happy about the whole thing. He grew up with gun. His dad and brother are really big into guns. When his Taurus arrived, I was looking at it thinking…Uhmm thats a pretty cool looking gun. I then asked him if they had any like it in pink and well sure enough they did. I had to have it shipping from Maryland to Tennessee, but I got my PINK TAURUS 24/7 PRO COMPACT 9MM. The weekend after it arrived we went to our farm so that I could learn how to shoot. I have been hooked ever since then. I have now shot a couple of 9mm and a AK-47. Now that was exciting! I did great! I also recently completed my Handgun Carry Permit Class. I cant wait to get back to the range!
